Our story

One oil, used the way it always has been.

BatanaPro exists for a simple reason: batana works, and much of what is sold under its name has been refined or diluted until it barely resembles the real thing.

From the Mosquitia

Batana comes from the American oil palm, Elaeis oleifera, which grows wild in La Mosquitia, the vast rainforest of eastern Honduras. The Miskito people there have used its oil on their hair for generations; their name for themselves, Tawira, is often translated as “the people of beautiful hair”.

The traditional process is slow. The nuts are gathered, roasted, ground and cooked until the oil rises to the surface and can be skimmed off. What comes out is thick, dark and smoky.

Why we keep it raw

Refining batana makes it lighter, paler and nearly odourless, which is easier to sell. It also strips out much of the vitamin E and carotenoids that make it worth using. So we don't refine it. Our batana is dark, it smells of roasted coffee, and that is the point.

Around it, we built the shortest routine we could: an oil for the scalp, a shampoo gentle enough to wash it out, and a butter for the lengths. Nothing in them that doesn't need to be there, and the percentage of batana printed on every pack.

Why it works

Batana nourishes the scalp where every hair begins and keeps each strand supple, so it stops snapping. Over 90 days, that is the difference between hair that thins at the ends and hair that looks thick and full.

That's why every bottle comes with a second one free: so you can keep going for the full 90 days. And if it doesn't work for you, you get your money back.
